Last week, Umbra attended the Grand Opening of Youthlink's Youth Transition Home & Emergency Shelter located in Scarborough, Ontario.
Youthlink is a registered charity and youth mental agency dedicated to providing the support, guidance, and opportunities Youth need to make positive life choices.
The Scarborough Youth Emergency Shelter and Transition Home serve homeless youth between the ages of 16 to 24. The shelter includes 10 emergency shelter beds, 41 transition long-term beds with individual bedrooms, a library, computer room, courtyard, lounge as well as a dog kennel for pets.
Youthlink hopes to be able to break the cycle of youth homelessness and getting young people off of the streets by providing shelter and a wide range of services and counseling to help youth finish school and find permanent housing.
This Youthlink shelter is the first the area has seen since 2015.
On behalf of Umbra, CEO and President, Les Mandelbaum, was excited to be able to take part in this amazing new shelter by donating some of our favorite home products to help furnish the bedrooms.
Working in youth homes in the USA and Canada since the 1960's, Les has taken a keen interest in this project and organization. He is proud to be able to contribute, on behalf of Umbra, to the success of this community project in giving homeless youth a home and new start in life.
